Online conference to feature social media tips from city and county leaders

A webinar during the Oct. 12, 2010, Local Government Summit will feature IT leaders from New York, Boston, Miami-Dade County, Fla., and the Washington-based Public Technology Institute (PTI) discussing how local governments can take advantage of social media to better engage residents in local issues. Presenters for "The New Public Square: Engaging residents with Social Media" webinar will discuss how cities and counties are using Facebook, Twitter and mobile apps to communicate with their residents.
Alan Shark, executive director of PTI, will moderate the discussion between Joe Morrisroe, executive director of NYC311 in New York; Nigel Jacob, co-chair of the Boston Mayor's Office of New Urban Mechanics; and Judi Zito, director of the Miami-Dade County, Fla., Government Information Center.
