Commuting by bicycle in the nation's capital is now a bit safer. Washington has purchased bike lane “channelizer posts” from Atlanta-based Pexco to line a stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue with dedicated lanes for cycling commuters.

The cloverleaf design of the FG 300 Channelizer Post is durable, and the posts consistently rebound when hit by vehicles, according to the company. The geometry combined with polyurethane means the Pexco channelizer posts offer long service life, according to the company.

“There is no better place for the District of Columbia to demonstrate its commitment to traffic safety than right here on America's Main Street,” Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty said.

Inaugurated this summer, the new bike lanes run down the center of Pennsylvania Avenue from Third Street to 15th Street NW. Each lane is clearly defined by white posts, which have reflective striping and form a high-visibility barrier between the cycling lanes and the adjacent roadway.
