Portable trans-Q classifier uses noncontact measurement to detect traffic count, speed and length. Nonintrusive radar technology lets users analyze traffic data without sensors in roadway. Increases safety of work crews by eliminating need for lane closures, in-pavement installation or traffic-flow disruption. Install device on roadside, using a Palm-based PDA. Collects data about vehicles traveling from 2 to 130 mph, in two directions. Onboard memory stores data for up to 1.2 million vehicles. To retrieve data, use the PDA or wireless connection (GPRS or Bluetooth). Runs on rechargeable battery; solar power available.
