Portable wheelchair scale

The Alliance-Rice Lake scale weighs wheelchair-bound patients. The portable scale, which folds up and rolls on two rear wheels, expands to a 29.5-inch-by-32-inch platform with a built-in ramp. Its 700- by .2-pound capacity allows wheelchair weight to be tared out, eliminating the need for patients to be lifted or carried. Readings (appearing on a 1-inch LCD display) can be given in pounds only, kilograms only and pounds/kilograms, and, if needed, the scale also can perform BMI-readings, reweigh and hold functions. A 9-volt rechargeable battery and AC adapter power the scale; an automatic power-saving shut-off mode can be programmed to initiate itself up to 20 minutes after the scale has been idle. The OIML-, Class III- and CE-approved scale comes standard with an RS-232 port; a USB-to-serial converter is optional.
