Hand-held Firefighter Rescue Transceiver (FRT) 1000 combines a low-frequency (457 kilohertz) radio transmitter and a receiver. Attaches to firefighter’s SCBA belt in conjunction with an integrated or stand-alone Personal Alert Safety System. If firefighter stops moving for 60 seconds, transceiver sends an electromagnetic distress signal that can be tracked by other firefighters wearing another FRT 1000. Signal transmission also can be activated manually by distressed firefighter during emergencies. Distress signal transmits through walls and floors, enabling firefighters inside and outside a structure to rapidly track and rescue the downed firefighter. Draeger Safety Inc., Pittsburgh, Pa.
