To ensure homeland defense, RSS-2000 and RSS-2012 traffic
barriers guard access points to critical areas, ranging from
military bases and embassies to federal office buildings or nuclear
facilities. Once activated, barrier can instantly block road access
and disable a 15,000-lb. vehicle traveling at 50 m.p.h. Features a
-in.-thick steel vault, complete with anti-skid top surface, which
installs in concrete pit around perimeter of existing roadway.
Vault lies flush with road, yet contains 4- by 4-in. removable
bollard posts. To stop a threatening vehicle, authorized user
activates remote operation from computer-based Command Control
Center. Bollards then rise 30 to 48 ins. high, becoming deadly in
just 2 secs. to stop moving vehicle. In case of power failure,
bollards can be raised manually or by 12-v. battery back-up system.
In 1-lane configuration, RSS 2000 measures 10 by 6 by 2 ft.; weighs
5,700 lbs. Model RSS 2012 measures 12 by 6 by 2 ft.; weighs 7,200
lbs. Two-lane versions also available. Options include a tire
shredder, multi-location or wireless controls, stoplight with
safety horn and strobe, and custom sizes. Price: starts at $35,000.
