Modulating gas furnaces

Modulating gas furnaces with permanent split capacitor (PSC) motors have a 97 percent annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) rating. All of the manufacturer's single-stage furnaces now are rated at 95.5 percent AFUE. The new design includes the industry's first fully modulating 80 percent AFUE offering that features integrated controls, according to the manufacturer. The controls maintain the temperature to within 1 degree of the thermostat setpoint and ensure precise modulation of the gas valve from 50 to 100 percent in 1 percent increments. Meanwhile, the 97 percent and higher AFUE models modulate from 35 to 100 percent in 1 percent increments.
