The Carlton Model 1712 is a 12-inch, disk-style wood chipper. At 5,400 pounds, the unit is towable by smaller chip trucks. The chipper incorporates a 48-by-28-inch infeed opening, allowing it to swallow tops with little or no trimming. The 10½-inch-diameter feed rollers accept the wood with minimal wrapping. The 32-cubic-inch-displacement hydraulic feed motors provide the power to pull and collapse limbs and tops. A digital adjustable autofeed monitors engine rpm. The system can start and stop the feed of the material into the chipper automatically based on parameters set by the operator.
