Two heavyweight trucks were recently developed to meet military needs for high-speed travel and versatile operation in the field. The first creation, a High Mobility Variable Reach Truck (HMVRT), can travel 50 m.p.h., lift up to 12,000 lbs, and offers a 27-ft. reach. The four-wheel-drive machine allows operator to efficiently load or unload standard 20-ft. ISO containers, either on the ground or while mounted on trucks. In addition, the truck can be transported in a Hercules C-130 aircraft. Another new truck, known as a High Mobility Utility Vehicle (HMUV), can transport four-ton payloads, including personnel and heavy cargo. The truck can also tow 10,000 lbs. and offers a top travel speed of 68 m.p.h. Both trucks are made by JCB, Inc., located in Pooler, GA. The companys product line also ranges from a high-speed backhoe loader for military engineering tasks to a rough-terrain, telescopic forklift that travels up to 50 m.p.h. on roadways.
