Kempf served as the assistant commissioner for the Office of Acquisition Management, where he was responsible for establishing the standards and framework for managing the FAS acquisition work force. He will continue to serve in this capacity, the agency said.
“Steve is well-respected among GSA’s FAS employees nationwide and brings his outstanding experience in delivering service, innovation and value to federal customers and the American taxpayer,” Acting FAS Commissioner Tyree Varnado said.
Kempf joined GSA in 1992 as a marketing coordinator for the Office of Technology Assistance and the Center for Federal Systems Integration and Management (FEDSIM). He then joined GSA’s regional program in California, where he was the technical chairperson for GSA’s first governmentwide acquisition contract (GWAC).
In January 2000, Kempf returned to FEDSIM, where he served as a senior project manager, operations manager and customer services director for Defense Department programs. He was appointed deputy assistant commissioner for FAS’s Integrated Technology Service in 2007, where he was responsible for GSA’s information technology schedules, GWACs and Network Services Program. In June 2008, he was selected as the assistant commissioner for acquisition management.
In his new role, Kempf will assist in leading the delivery of approximately $50 billion of best-value services, products and solutions to federal customers that increase overall government effectiveness and efficiency, according to GSA. Kempf also will assist in providing leadership to FAS’ 4,000 employees.
