The Department of Defense has awarded an $11 million prime contract to Arlington, Va.-based Vangent to provide information technology support services for the Common User Database in support of the Military Health System.

The contract has a base period of one year, with four one-year option periods. The program is managed out of the Defense Department’s Force Health Protection and Readiness Program Office in Falls Church, Va., in support of the Defense Medical Standardization Board and Joint Staff Surgeon J4.

The Common User Database is a net-centric, medical material logistics and clinical patient encounter standardization tool, serving as the core of clinical and medical logistics planning. When fully operational, the database will provide a standard, validated set of referential medical data that can be used across the Force Health Protection Continuum by all services for planning and simulations, according to Vangent.

The Common User Database enables the deployment of sufficient medical resources around the world, and supports applications such as the Joint Medical Analysis Tool v. 2.0, developed by Vangent partner Akimeka.

Under the contract, Vangent team personnel will directly support the database system in all facets of capability and operations. In addition to Akimeka, Vangent is partnered with The Geneva Foundation, a nonprofit organization with the sole mission to promote and support the advancement of military medicine.
