The year 2011 is disappearing in the rear-view mirror, so here's a brief rundown of some of the most-read story topics that appeared on the GovPro.com website in the past year.

 

How do salaries paid to government workers compare to salaries paid in the private sector? Several of the most-read items that appeared on Govpro.com in 2011 tried to answer that question. The stories also generated a good number of viewer comments. Here’s one of the items:

 

Conclusions differ over whether federal salaries keep pace with private sector pay

 

This report linked to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data showing that salaries of federal workers are lagging behind their private-sector peers by an average of 2.1 percent across the United States. Bruce Fenton, president and founder of Atlantic Financial Inc., offered his view that “federal salaries, in general, are far higher than their civilian counterparts.”

 

Govpro got the lowdown on how federal workers are coping with federal pay freezes, staff cutbacks and congressional budget battles. We talked with Ralph and Ian Smith, two of the founders of FedSmith.com, an interactive information portal.
