After testing more than six different self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) models, Phoenix firefighters awarded their highest rating – and as a result, the city’s SCBA contract – to Pittsburgh-based Draeger.

All contenders tested met National Fire Protection Association standards, but were further evaluated by other criteria such as price, written proposal content, ease of product maintenance, fit and function, live fire testing, available options and communications, according to Draeger.

The city placed an order with Draeger for more than 800 SCBAs. These units are annexed with Draeger’s FRT1000 firefighter tracking system, which aids in searches for missing crew members and/or exit locations.
