A federal working group with limited staff and funds is partnering
with a technology company to enable millions of Americans to voice
their opinions on health care reform.
To accomplish their mandate under the Medicare Modernization Act
(MPDIMA), the Citizens' Health Care Working Group has enlisted
Neighborhood America's online Public Comment Service to let nearly
300 million Americans "have a say" in reforming health care. The
Public Comment Service collects citizen opinions and experiences
online, augmenting the traditional town hall meetings being held by
the working group in 30 cities nationwide.
"Given the breadth of what Congress has charged us with doing, it
is absolutely imperative that we rely on the power of the Web to
maximize our outreach to American citizens and listen to what they
have to say," says Andy Rock, a senior staff analyst assigned to
the Citizens' Health Care Working Group. "The public comment we
collect over the [three-month period] will provide a valuable
foundation from which the Working Group will base its final
recommendations."
