Crane Conference Promises Uplifting Seminars
The Crane and Hoist Conference and Exhibition (CHC 2003) will be held at the Radisson O'Hare Hotel in Chicago October 15 to 17.

New Web Site Centralizes Maintenance Products
Diversified Brands, a Division of Sherwin-Williams Co., has created a centralized Web site featuring its full line of heavy-duty maintenance, re-pair, and operation (MRO) supplies.

Winter Weather Workshop
The 12th Winter Weather Workshop, held by Surface Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of Quixote Transportation Safety, Inc., will be held at the Adam's Mark Hotel in St. Louis, MO, September 15 to 18.

Participants may choose from three subject tracks: Roadway Maintenance, Roadway Innovations, and Airports. Topics will include Road-way/Runway Weather Information System (RWIS) placement and use, as well as anti-icing techniques, weather monitoring for snowplow operators, weather forecasts and decision-making, work zone safety, pavement model forecasting, and chemical types, usage, and results.

The meeting will include daily workshops, training sessions, peer-networking discussions, social events, and more.

Directory Divulges Contact Information of Thousands of Government Agencies
The 3,200- page, two-volume Government Phone Book USA 2003, published by Omnigraphics, compiles contact information about key government offices—from municipal to federal levels. The directory lists direct telephone numbers and mailing addresses, as well as fax numbers and e-mail and Web site addresses of more than 270,000 government offices.

Federal, state, county, and city offices are listed in separate sections, each with its own quick reference section for frequently called numbers. Federal and state sections also contain a key word index for fast lookups. Federal government listings contain executive office, cabinet departments, administrative agencies, and other organizations, including the Federal National Mortgage Association and the U.S. Postal Service.

"No question about it," says Judie Zimomra, city manager, Sanibel Island, FL. "Government officials at all levels find themselves consulting via phone or e-mail with their outof-state counterparts more often."

Reasons for this increased inter-agency communication, Zimomra says, include more cooperative and partnering efforts between levels of government, state funding programs aimed at local governments, and increased auditing and monitoring of federal grants to local governments.
