“What do fleet maintenance managers want to know more about?” was a primary question asked of the hundreds of members of a fleet maintenance software users group.

In a recent survey, fleet budgeting ranked first among 11 major fleet management topics listed in the survey, with more than 47% of respondents selecting this preference. The second most-selected topic was capital expense planning, as more than 38% of the respondents chose the topic of equipment life cycle costing.

Arsenault, provider of Dossier fleet maintenance software, contacted fleet managers by e-mail, inviting them to click on a link to a survey site. More than 200 fleet managers took part in the survey that was conducted and tabulated by an independent company.

Other topics in the survey included driver/mechanic management, selected by 31% of the respondents; tire management, 30%; equipment specification, 28%; wireless computing, 24%; purchasing, 23%; downtime analysis, 23%; warranty management, 23%; accident tracking, 21%; and vendor management, 18%.
