The American Public Works Association (APWA) recently launched computer-based testing for Certified Public Fleet Professional (CPFP) and Certified Public Infrastructure Inspection (CPII) exams. The first exams offered through the new format will be administered March 16-27.

“New testing options will allow greater flexibility for fleet and infrastructure inspection professionals working to achieve certification while maintaining excellent public works services in their communities,” APWA President Noel Thompson said.

More than 170 testing centers across the United States will offer the computer-based exams. The format allows for flexibility to take the exam within a two-week testing block and immediate scoring results.

Since the certification programs were established in 2006, 67 industry professionals have achieved CPFP certification and 60 have achieved CPII certification, according to the APWA. The certification standards are designed to ensure individual competency, promote excellence in their given fields and provide the public works industry with recognized hiring and promotion standards.

The 2009 CPFP exams will be administered during the following dates:

  • March 16-27 – Open computer-based testing
  • April 4 – Newport Beach, Calif. (paper/pencil)
  • April 29 – Des Moines, Iowa (paper/pencil)
  • June 8 – Denver (paper/pencil)
  • July 6-17 – Open computer-based testing
  • Sept. 16 – Columbus, Ohio (paper/pencil)
  • Nov. 9-20 – Open computer-based testing

CPII exams will be administered during the following dates:

  • July 6-17 – Open computer-based testing
  • Sept. 16 – Columbus, Ohio (paper/pencil)
