The Marietta, Ga.-based Mohawk Group's commitment to “green” just got a boost — of gold. The commercial carpeting manufacturer's Merchandise Mart showrooms in Chicago have received the gold-level achievement of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI) from the Washington-based U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). USGBC's LEED program recognizes sustainable, energy-efficient building designs across the country. The Chicago regional showroom displays the four brands of Mohawk carpet and is a venue for special events. Ken Wilson, founder and principal of Washington-based environmental firm Envision Design, designed the recently renovated and expanded space.
