TSA orders more X-ray scanning systems from OSI

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has awarded a $15 million follow-on order to Hawthorne, Calif.-based OSI Systems for the company’s Rapiscan 620DV (Dual-View) advanced-technology X-ray scanning systems.

With the order, TSA has awarded approximately $32 million to OSI Systems since placing an indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity order with the company in August 2007.

The Rapiscan 620DV allows security officers to obtain multiple views of a carry-on bag. Additionally, the systems have the ability to be upgraded in the future as new capabilities are developed, according to the company.

“TSA’s adoption of the 620DV technology demonstrates Rapiscan’s continuing leadership in delivering efficient, effective checkpoint screening technologies that the aviation security market demands today,” said Ajay Mehra, president of OSI’s Rapiscan Systems division. “The system’s flexibility ensures that it will remain a key contributor to aviation security for years to come.”

TSA has deployed the Rapiscan 620DV at Los Angeles International Airport and other locations. The deployment at Los Angeles International Airport represents the largest installation of advanced-technology systems at any single site in the United States, according to the company.
