City of Chicago transitions to automated cashiering solution

To streamline the receipt and processing of payments made by citizens, Chicago officials selected Payment Manager software developed by The Active Network, based in San Diego.

The software will provide an integrated solution to collect, process and track all of the city’s daily payment transactions. Over $2 billion in payments will be processed each year by the software, which will be used at more than 100 cashier terminals located in the city’s seven payment centers.

Payment Manager will manage all of the daily payment transactions for each of Chicago’s divisions through one system, enabling the city to reduce operating costs. The software with provide Chicago’s Revenue Department with accurate audit trails, as well as simplify financial reconciliation and cash flow.

Implementation of the software is expected to enhance Chicago’s customer service by expanding the city’s alternative payment service channels such as the Internet, self-serve kiosks and pay-by telephone. Expanding these service channels will increase access hours, help reduce in-person wait times for customers using traditional walk-in services and enable multiple payments to be processed in a single transaction with one receipt.
