GovPro.com poll respondents are thinking green
Governments CAN have a positive impact on the environment, according to respondents to a recent online poll on GovPro.com. More than half (55 percent) of poll respondents said that government agencies can “definitely” make an impact by purchasing green products.

Another 15 percent answered “maybe” when asked: “Can government agencies really make an impact by purchasing green products?” Only 3 percent answered “not at all” to the question.
About one in five poll respondents are suspicious of global warming claims. These respondents checked off the box labeled “I don’t believe in global warming.”
A small number of highly pessimistic respondents (6 percent) clicked on the box labeled “We’re all doomed.”
Other polls and surveys show increased concern for the environment. According to a recent Office Depot survey, many business professionals and consumers already are taking steps to be more environmentally friendly, including recycling ink and toner and using energy-saving light bulbs. Additionally, Office Depot found that 79 percent of respondents consider themselves at least moderately green—meaning they try to reduce, reuse and recycle when they are able to.
The Office Depot survey also found the following:
- 85 percent of respondents claim to already use energy-saving
lights, such as compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs).
- 82 percent recycle their ink and toner cartridges.
- 76 percent use refillable products, such as pens and
pencils.
- 65 percent use both sides of the paper for copying and printing.
The Office Depot survey was designed to gain insights into consumers’ and business professionals’ feelings toward green products. The online poll surveyed 358 people from Sept. 14-28, 2007.
