Federal agencies award contracts for charge-card services

Under the first contract, the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) selected JPMorgan Chase to supply the agency with more than 63,000 integrated cards that combine purchasing, travel and fleet functionality. The firm also will issue another 25,000 fleet-only cards.

When combined, the total DOI charge volume on all the issued cards is projected to exceed $660 million a year. According to JPMorgan Chase, the DOI’s use of charge cards represents the largest, single integrated card program in the public or private sector.

In addition, a 4-year contract was recently awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for travel purchases.  JPMorgan Chase will supply the DOT with more than 39,000 charge cards to be used by the agency’s employees for travel purchases. During FY 2006, the DOT charge volume on travel cards amounted to $130 million.

Based in New York City, JPMorgan Chase has been a GSA SmartPay card provider since the master contract was implemented in 1998. Because the company is listed on multiple GSA Schedules, federal agencies can contract directly with JPMorgan Chase to obtain a range of services.

JPMorgan Chase also provides treasury solutions to more than 3,000 state governments and municipalities, helping these entities with tax processing and enterprise content management, electronic benefits transfer programs such as food stamp and Women, Infants and Children (WIC) payments, disaster preparedness, child support payments, unemployment insurance and license, fee and violations processing.
